BeauBeau Quinane, Cobram

Electrotechnology

Beau Quinane, a Year 11 student from Cobram Secondary College and the Shepparton TEC knows how to spot an opportunity.

Beau began his studies with the Shepparton Technical Education Centre in February of 2008 undertaking a Certificate II in Eletrotechnology.

As part of the course through the TEC, work placement is organised and work ready skills are taught. Both aspects are designed to allow students to apply the trade skills they are learning and to make students aware of the personal qualities and employer expectations that can influence the decision to hire.

Beau certainly proved his motivation and networking skills and as a result secured an electrical apprenticeship last month.  Michael McClenahan from MM Electrical a new electrical sales, installation and service business in Cobram said he offered the apprenticeship to Beau because of his motivation and attitude. His desire to undertake a Certificate II in Electrotechnology whilst at school combined with his desire to do work placement and get out there was impressive.

Michael had been talking about setting up a business in Cobram and had spoken to people Beau knew about his intention. Beau immediately thought there could be an opportunity of an apprenticeship as staff would be needed and using his network of contacts, approached Michael to take him on for work placement. Beau was prepared to undertake work placement during his school holidays and was persistent in his follow up.

Michael met with Beau and was so impressed he offered the apprenticeship to him. This success story is yet another great example of how motivation, persistence & passion can create life changing opportunities.
