Jack Nye , Alexandra
Hairdressing
Alexandra student Jack Nye enrolled for the TEC Cert II in hairdressing because he was interested in doing something creative as a career. After work placement was initiated through the Shepparton TEC he was convinced hairdressing was the right career for him.
He helped with dying, tipping and setting hair, did rinsing, preparing foils and cleaning and making coffees and answering the phones. Jack felt he got a well rounded experience of what hairdressing would be like which enabled him to be confident in his career choice.
Rebecca McLeod, owner of Addicted 2 Hair said Jack showed common sense, a natural apptitude and used his initiative whilst on work placement. Although Rebecca has supported other students with work placement she believes Jack's committment to studying hairdressing meant he was more enthusiastic and dedicated during work placement compared with other secondary school students she has supported. "It was the reason I offered Jack the apprenticeship."
TEC Work Placement coordinator Narelle Lowe said "Jack is a local Alexandra boy and this is a great outcome for him. It's great to see local business supporting local youth with work placement and employment."
