Certificate II in Furnishing (Pre-apprenticeship - Cabinet Making) covers a wide range of work areas within the furnishings industry, particularly cabinet making of all types. This pre-apprenticeship training program will provide you with a high degree of skills, knowledge of timber and other furnishing materials and an ability to read plans while working on a range of projects.
Career Opportunities
On completion of this course the student will have an advanced standing in articulating into a Certificate III in Cabinet Making. On completion of the Certificate II in Furnishing (Pre Apprenticeship Cabinet Making) careers such as Kitchen & Furniture Making will be available.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will be required to sit a practical theory trest with a final interview for suitability of the course. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
Duration & Delivery
This course is over a 16 week period. Classes will run 5 days a week from 8.00am - 4.45pm.
Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.
Practical Placement
The work placement is to be organised by the student. The practical placement enables the student first and experience with a cabinetmaker.
Qualification
The Certificate II in Furnishing (Pre-apprenticeship - Cabinet Making) is a nationally recognised qualification.
Pathways to Further Study:
The successfully completed Pre Apprenticeship Course in Cabinet Making will give you an advanced standing when obtaining an Apprenticeship.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
