This pre-apprenticeship course provides a wide range of work areas within the Building and Construction industry. The program will provide you with a high degree of skills and knowledge and an ability to read plans while working on a range of projects.
Career Opportunities
Students who have completed the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying, Carpentry, Painting and Decorating) Preapprenticeship will have advanced standing in a range of apprenticeship qualifications within the building and construction industry.
Entry Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age and above. Mature Age Students are encouraged to apply. Prospective students are selected through an interview process. Students should demonstrate a genuine desire to work in the Building and Construction Industry. It is recommended that participants have communication, literacy and numeracy skills sufficiently well developed for them to participate in the course.
Duration & Delivery
This is 6 month full time course.
Assessment
The knowledge and skills gained throughout the course will be checked against those set out by the nationally endorsed industry competency standards and the completion requirements that make up the qualification.
Qualification
The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying, Carpentry, Painting And Decorating) Preapprenticeship is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Pathways to Further Study
Students who successfully complete the course may go on to complete subsequent training upon gaining an apprenticeship.
